Back in July we experienced some major water damage. We came home from two wonderful weeks in the Mediterranean to find large chunks of our bedroom ceiling scattered across the floor. Our wooden window frame was bowed outward and completely warped. Ugh. After a month + of negotiating with our condo insurance company, we finally had contractors in our place, working to clean up the mess. Unfortunately, they turned out to be more trouble than we bargained for, forcing us to sleep on our living room couches for more than a week. After a few days on the couches, and a whole lotta mess EVERYWHERE, I started to get a little antsy, and made a rash decision to order Dominos and take a pregnancy test, in that order. Although I was itching for some good news, only one little pink line popped up on the test. :( The next morning I decided to take the second of three tests that came in the kit, thinking that maybe my chances would be better in the morning. Still only one line. On Friday, September 23rd, four days after taking the second test, I decided to take the only remaining test in the box. We had plans to meet our Loyola friends in Michigan for a fun fall getaway. My thought was, if the test was still negative, it probably wouldn't hurt to enjoy a drink or two that weekend. Again, only one line popped up. I sat the test on the bathroom sink and jumped in the shower to get ready for work. I'd completely forgot I'd even taken the test; however, as I was drying off, my eye glanced at the bathroom sink, and I swear I was seeing double for the first time all week! A very faint second line seemed to have appeared. I ran into the bedroom, started shaking Chris, and excitedly told him the good news. We have been calling our little baby
Chicken Fry (after the Zac Brown Band) ever since ;).
So if you agree, have a drink with me
Raise your glasses for a toast
To a little bit of chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well, I've seen the sunrise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love
Thursday, October 20th was our first ultrasound appointment. Although I thought I was 9 weeks at the time (and would be due around May 24th, 2012), the ultrasound technician said that we were actually only 6 weeks 6 days (about 7 weeks). She gave us an updated expected due date of
June 8, 2012. We got to see Chicken Fry's heartbeat and find out that he/she was measuring about the size of a blueberry. Chicken Fry's mouth and tongue will be forming this weekend, as well as his/her arms and leg buds. Last weekend (October 15th), we decided to tell my brother Kevin the good news that he is going to be an uncle. Can't wait to share the excitement with everyone else ... it's SO HARD keeping Chicken Fry a secret! We love our little Chicken.

Taken Friday, September 23rd. This definitely took the guess work out of our first test. Much easier to read. |
