24 Weeks

Wednesday afternoon was my 24 week doctor's appointment. It came at a good time, because up until then, this had been the most difficult week of either of my pregnancies - BY FAR. Sunday through Tuesday I experienced extreme nausea, followed by some physical illness. I also felt continuous stomach cramping, making it difficult to do carline and lunch duty at work. By Wednesday I felt about 90% better, but I thought it was important to bring up these unusual feelings to my doctor. She said that with the extreme heat/humidity wave that we experienced Sunday through Tuesday, I needed to drink extra amounts of water and stay as cool and as hydrated as possible. Other than that, the cramping could have also been due to a growing baby, as I mentioned to her that both Chris and I did feel Peanut Butter kicking regularly Monday night (that was the first time Chris had ever felt/seen PB move). Peanut Butter had a strong heart beat in the 140s, and seems to be doing a-okay. My next appointment is scheduled for September 25th.

Making Aliens with Auntie!

Kyle and Auntie Robo like to set aside time for their art projects in the morning. They often cut and paste, and last Monday they even busted out the googly eyes and made these cool aliens!

Cubs!

After Olivia's party, we headed out to Wrigley Field to enjoy Gracie the Swan beanie baby day and a Cubs' series sweep over the Baltimore Orioles (number one in their division).

Happy 2nd Birthday, Olivia!

Sunday was Kyle's friend Olivia's 2nd birthday. Many of the Loyola friends got together to celebrate Olivia at a beautiful park downtown. It turned out to be a beautiful - albeit H.O.T. - morning, but we were able to cool down under the trees and enjoy some delicious bbq and nutella cake from Molly's Cupcakes. Kyle had a blast jumping around in the giant castle jumping jack and running through the bubbles. Kyle is such a runner that it really scares us sometimes. He's a busy kid, and doesn't always look where he is running to. He also doesn't always turn around or stop when someone is shouting at him to stop for the good of his own safety. All of sudden Kyle took off for the swings on Sunday after he had been playing nicely with the bubble machine with some of the other kids. I ran after him, shouting for him to stop, but in typical Kyle fashion, he ignored my calls and proceeded to run as fast as he could, unfortunately running straight into a little boy's forward motion on the swing set. The little boy's foot hit Kyle directly in the face, causing our little boy to fall backwards to the ground. Ooooh no. Waterworks galore. It took a whole bottle of water to get Kyle to stop crying, but once he did, and once we realized nothing was physically wrong with him (thank goodness!), he spent the rest of the afternoon reminding us that he was "HIT BY A SWINGER!"

Neighborhood Buddies :)

Kyle, Jacob, Hannah, and Josh blowing bubbles in our yard before dinner.

Train @ Ravinia

Here we were. 2pm Saturday afternoon. Black skies. Dark clouds. Then all of a sudden, complete downpour. We were a little nervous how the weather would continue to morph throughout the evening, but everything cleared up perfectly and we were able to enjoy a fun night out at Ravinia with Kara and Mark, and Jim and Sylvia. Train is my favorite non-country group so it was great to experience them live again for the first time in 3 years.

32nd Birthday Dinner

Nana and Buppa gave Chris a giftcard to Outback, so we decided to go there for his birthday dinner. Everything was delicious! Thank you!

Time for Cake!

After an hour at the pool, Kyle and I ran to Walgreens to pick up a box of Funfetti. Since it was really supposed to rain yesterday (although it never did in our neck of the woods), I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for Kyle and I to bake Chris a birthday cake, especially since Kyle's been singing "and put it in the over for Baby Kyle and Mommy!" a lot lately. He helped pour in the water, the oil, and the eggs - literally tossing a whole egg, shell and all, into the batter. That must have been the secret ingredient. The cake was delicious! Since Kyle's friends were over in our yard after dinner last night (aka our three next door neighbors ... they were shooting baskets, drawing with chalk, blowing bubbles ... the usual), I decided to bring out the cake. They helped us sing to Chris, and everyone enjoyed a slice. Later on, as Kyle was getting ready to hop in the bath, Mimi and Grandpa stopped by for some cake (and Toy Story), as well.

New Pool Landscaper

Yesterday, despite the cloudy skies and threats of rain, Ky and I went to the little wading pool down the street from our house. They have tons of plastic watering cans available for kids to play with. Usually Kyle likes to play with these toys inside the pool, but for some reason he was obsessed with watering the actual planters along the fence to the point where the plants were practically screaming for a life preserver, but it's good to see he has a green thumb nonetheless!. Then, five minutes before rest break, he ran over to our favorite picnic table, stretched out, and started asking for his fishy break. Normally Kyle is such a fish. Must have been the weird weather!

Summertime Grilling!

Over the weekend, Chris put together the grill he got from my mom and dad for his birthday. Then, during the day on Monday I marinated a few chicken breasts and rubbed butter and pepper over a couple of ears of corn so that by the time Chris got home from work, he was all set to fire up the grill and give it a try. Monday night was such a perfect night for grilling, and I must say, Chris did a really nice job. Everything tasted delicious!

Fun with Playdough

Some mornings Kyle likes to bust out the playdough. I let him pick two colors at a time AT MOST in an effort to avoid mixing and matching doughs and "misplacing" dough throughout the toy room. Lately we've been working on rolling the dough into balls, sorting colors, and sorting colors by ball size, as we work on comparisons (i.e. smaller than, bigger than, etc.). After our little learning game, Ky likes to, what else?, build Olaf of course!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Cousin Ian!

Today we celebrated Chris' cousin Jill's son Ian's 2nd birthday - a Thomas the Train themed party. The weather was cool, but pleasant, and the rain held out so everyone was able to enjoy the outdoors. Kyle had fun sliding down Ian's slide, riding around in his car, and constructing things with his tool set. He apparently was a little shocked by the loud rendition of "Happy Birthday to You!" Check out him covering his ears in the photo. Happy Birthday, Ian!
