Visiting with the G-Grandparents and T!
Yesterday afternoon, AunTie Robo and GG stopped by for an early lunch and chit-chat. They were kind enough to bring me a summer salad from Wendy's and Kyle chicken nuggets (not McNuggets as they tried ordering at Wendy's haha ... whoops!). Then, later on after nap time, Kyle and I took a walk to the park ... tried out our favorite swing and slide, (quite possibly ate a tiny wood chip), and headed over to the nursing home to spend some time with Dzia and Boo. Kyle got to play with Dzia's sun toys in the window, and got a kick out of opening and closing his musical Superman Father's Day card! Looks like Ky is dancing to his new theme song ...
"E", Ed, /e/
Ed, not because it's really a word I think Kyle needs to learn right now, but because it's the name of the guy on his "E" card (probably because it's using a new sound /e/, with a familiar sound - or already introduced sound - /d/). Ky likes to wave at him as I say, "Hi, Ed" ;)

1st Haircut!
Today after swim class I took Kyle to Jack and Jill's for his first haircut! Ky was so excited about his airplane chair. At first. But when the scissors started scissoring, he wanted outta there. Fast. Mommy had to hold him down and pull out all of her funny faces and silly noises to get him to stay put. "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" app was a huge help. Overall, I guess he did pretty well. His stylist said he was so good for her, it was almost too easy. That shocked me, but I'll take it. Way to go buddy! My boy is such a grownup. He doesn't look a day under 2 ;)
"D", Dog, /D/
Some of the cards in Kyle's phonics card pack focus on digraphs (two letters that make one sound), so I'll go over them with him even though I totally know he's not quite there yet. It doesn't hurt to introduce new sounds to him right? For example, the "ck" card goes as follows: /ck/, sock. So while we were going over the /d/ sound yesterday morning, as in "D", duck, /d/, I also showed Kyle the /ck/ card and said "d", duck, /d/, "d", duck, /d/, /ck/, duck, /ck/, duck so that he is exposed to both the initial and ending sounds. When "y" comes at the end of a word, it often sounds like a vowel: /i/ as in cry, or /e/ as in baby. Kyle's card pack has a card for that too, so when I went over "d", daddy, /d/, I also showed Kyle the /y/ as a vowel card and said "d", daddy, /d/, "d", daddy, /d/, /e/, daddy, /e/, daddy. It sounds complicated, but it'ssssssssss ssssssssssssNOT ;)
Much to Learn this Young Jedi Has
The Star Wars gang hangs out in Kyle's closet next to his book shelf. Ky can't seem to get enough of these guys. He loves how Master Yoda and Chewy talk to him, and has even figured out how to make them talk when they aren't feeling very chatty. Yoda was left behind from my grandma GG when she moved into her Danish home, and Chewy is a more recent addition; Kyle got him as a birthday gift from his friends Augie and Trixie. Thanks guys! We have a few very simple Star Wars phonics books that I picked up from the book fair at my work so we read one or two of them whenever we want to do some Jedi training and learn about the force ;)

ABC Review
Today during breakfast, Kyle practiced spoon feeding himself bananas while we reviewed the letters we've been working on: A,B, C, and K. We reviewed a few chunks too, like /all/ as in "ball" and /at/ as in "cat", as well as the vowel digraphs /oo/ in "book" and /ow/ as in "plow" and "cow". Simple chunks and digraphs can be used to form simple words.

Sunday Swim Day!
After Uncle Kev and I made Grandpa breakfast for Father's Day, Kyle got to enjoy his brand new giraffe pool from Auntie Robo. Great day for some swimming ;)
